Sky Watch: Berries and Sky

berry_tree2
Hawthorn trees with beautiful crimson berries are all over Highland Park. This particular beauty is on Lawrence. Click on any of these to enlarge.

berries_sky
I couldn’t resist another post of hawthorn berry photos (see previous hawthorn berry tree).

berries_close
This is as about as close as I can get to those berries without producing a blurry image (anyone want to buy me a new camera? The ones in the $3,000 range would do fine).

berry_closer
Same photo as above, cropped closer so it looks larger (thanks, Robin, for the idea).

thorns1
This shot shows the thorns well.

berries_snow
It snowed two days ago, so I went around the corner to my local hawthorn tree and photographed these. Nice contrast to the bluer sky above.

sky_donaldson
I’m working on a post of Donaldson Park for My World, and I thought I’d throw in a sky above the park.

gull
And here’s a gull, flying over the Raritan River.

You are early. Lovely series. I wish I had seen a bit of blue sky since last week's SWF.

Very lovely. I particularly like that closeup with its vibrant red berries. Are you able to crop to simulate getting in closer, or does it get too blurry? I actually "cheated" that way with my raindrop shot. Looks great as long as you don't enlarge it too much ;-).

Thanks, Robin, I'll give it a try!

Leora your photographs are so full of life. Even with the leaves gone, the plump red berries show a tree full of life. The grey sky is stimulated by the lovely gull climbing in flight. Interesting shots-everyone of them.

Great shots. I am wishing Santa would bring me a high tech five paychecks costing camera, but for now I have to make do with my point and shoot.

Happy holidays.

The berries are such a gorgeous shade of red. The birds have eaten ALL of mine, every single haw! Happy Sky Watch!

Those look remarkably like something we have down here, except the local version has berries that are a little flatter and a little more orange and I don't think the trees grow quite so large. But the thorns? Yeah, they look just like yours. And for the life of me I can't remember what they're called just now. Could be a variant of the Hawthorn though. Certainly a cousin at least.

Nice job capturing these. I love the red against the blue like you have it.

Hello Leora. I love the red berries clinging to the bare branches. I wish we had them here so I can decorate my wreath! Have a great day.

Love these images. Especially the first one. Lovely tree and berries and gorgeous sky too. Also like the one nearly at the bottom with the light whisps of cloud floating over the blue.

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Leora: We are never so old that we can't learn a new camera trick. Those were some neat shots of a blue sky.

The berries are perfect with the blue sky. I hope you don't get the freezing rain which is so much more difficult to deal with than the snow...be careful...
