Jacob’s Ladder Watercolor

ladder_jacob

“behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it”– Genesis 28:12

How does one depict an angel? How does one depict the earth, the sky, the ladder? I skipped putting the main subject, Jacob, in the painting. Maybe next time. If I were to depict Jacob, he might look like this man.

It's beautiful Leora, I love the soft pastels and the way you've hinted at the figures.

PS Jacob's Ladder is the name of our big Anglo folk music festival here in Israel, one I look forward to all year long.

I really liked this. I like the sense of scale - the ladder seems huge.

Nice to hear from you, Daniel. I did think about perspective and vanishing lines when I drew the ladder - railroad tracks were one of the first things I ever learned to draw.

What a beautiful painting. I especially like how the angels are almost dancing or skipping up and down the ladder!

The perspective here is inspiring. I love the earthiness of the earth, with the angled stretch toward the ethereal. And your angels aren't really on the ladder, more using it as a guide, because they don't need to be grounded that way. I'm looking forward to your next parsha picture.
