Apple Picking in New Jersey
Last Sunday we went apple picking at Lee Turkey Farm in East Windsor, New Jersey. The previous September we picked apples at Terhune Orchards near Princeton.
Our first stop was Von Thun Farm in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey; however, they did not feature apple picking until the next Sunday. So we proceeded unto Lee Turkey Farm, which also has a corn maze and pick your own corn. My daughter and her friends enjoyed watching the chickens for a while.
No real reds in this photo, but I loved the rushed look of my daughter running through the corn maze at Lee Turkey Farm.

Well, I'd say that chicken combs and apples represent the color red quite well!
There is something so good about seeing an apple on the tree - no was nor irradiation to keep a perfect color, just an apple at the peak of ripeness. These autumnal activities are perfect for the season!

The time to blog! I meant to post a recipe but have not had time to translate it from Swedish into English. I made a nice dish with Swiss chard last night. This might be a good idea for Sukkot.

I came up with another idea for an apple beet salad last night - but then I burnt the apples and realized I should concentrate on the real cooking, not the blogging. The apples tasted good even if they were toasty, and they didn't go into the salad. The salad was delicious without the apples.
"translate it from Swedish into English" - such a funny problem! Seems like one my niece would have, except in her case, it would be Norwegian.

I love Lee's Turkey Farm! And Terhune. This year we only went to Giamarese in East Brunswick. I already made applesauce and apple pie with the results of that trip and I still have piles of apples (I was too busy talking to a friend to notice how much was being picked).

That's what my husband says - you blink, and suddenly the girls have picked tons of apples! But I do plan to make a pie, maybe even with a coconut oil/applesauce crust. Maybe 3 pies.

Picking apples is an experience I haven't had yet, and one day, I hope to do it. :) Oh, it must be a joy to taste freshly picked apples!

Great shots from the farm. The apples on the tree are so appealing and I love the hens or are they turkeys. I should be able to tell but it's hard in a packed together group like that.
