Sheep: Free Associate
Free Association Game: What do you think of when you read sheep? Or when you look at the above image? (or both)
Please leave your thoughts, ideas, associations in the comments. As always, vulgar or obscene comments will be deleted. But the truth is, I’ve never gotten any vulgar or obscene comments…
Not necessary to play the game, but if you are curious, read the difference between a lamb and a sheep.
Rivster says
Great. Now I've got all these sheep/lamb associations running through my head and I'll never sleep. Sleep...right. Counting sheep will put me to sleep. Ah...........
leoraw says
I didn't even think of counting sheep.
Robin from Israel says
Bedtime!
(Can you tell I'm working on a pretty severe sleep deficit this week?)
leoraw says
Oh, another one who associates sleep with sheep...hmmm...hope you get your zzzzz's, Robin!
Dorothy Stahlnecker says
I think of my 6 year old grandson Noah and what he knows about sheep and me counting sheep.
cute post, I'll ask Noah...

Look forward to hearing from Noah.
Mrs. S. says
- Rivka disguising Yaakov as Esav
- "Mary had a little lamb"
- "Baa, baa, black sheep, have you any wool?"
leoraw says
Oooh, your first one is a good one! Related to why I chose to draw a sheep this week.
EG Wow! says
Sleep. But I don't count hem when I'm trying to get to sleep, so why do I think of them?
leoraw says
Did you read the other comments first? Funny, sleep didn't cross my mind at all when I thought up this post.
Larry Lennhoff says
The sheep look up, but are not fed ...
leoraw says
I'm always learning from you, Larry.
John Brunner - "His novel The Sheep Look Up (1972) was a prophetic warning of ecological disaster. "
Larry Lennhoff says
yes - I learned the verse from reading Brunner.
Larry Lennhoff says
[And looking at the picture]
Mary Had A Little Lamb
by J.D. Salinger
The thing about this lamb was, everywhere Mary went this dorky lamb would follow her, with wool, white, all over it. Her and this g*d*mn dorky lamb. She kills me, old Mary.
leoraw says
Hmmm... where did J.D. Salinger write this? Is this in Catcher in the Rye?
Larry Lennhoff says
Sorry J.D. Salinger should have been in quotes. It is a parody - rewriting nursery rhymes in the style of various authors. A couple of other examples:
Thou art Peter and in this garden thou shalt pick pecks of pickled peppers - The Bible
Little Miss Muffet:
Oh! That these too too solid curds should melt -
and thaw a-whey
For hark! What many-membered fiend creeps in this petty place, and fixes with arachnoid guile his sights where I do sit?
I needs must slough it, and my quietus meet with a bare tuffet - William Shakespeare
leoraw says
Oh, I see what you mean. I like the J.D. Salinger one the best. It really does sound like that main character, whatever his name was.
Ilana-Davita says
The Little Prince and the sheep drawn by the pilot.
Ilana-Davita says
And this week's parshah; lots of sheep, white sheep, spotted sheep...
leoraw says
You know exactly where I got this lovely illustration that I copied. And yes, we do think alike - lots of sheep in the parshiot that we are reading!
Baila says
I wish I could say I thought of the Parsha....but I didn't. I thought of that commercial for the mattress where the sheep are dissappointed because the guy is sleeping so well on his new (Sealy? Serta?) mattress.
leoraw says
Love it, makes me laugh! Great association. Looks it's Serta: http://www.serta.com/
Melissa says
I think about a favorite doll of mine as a child. It was a sweet little sheep and the inside of his ears were the palest blue.
Wonder whatever happened to it?
Happy Thanksgiving!
Melissa
ramblingwoods says
I think of the first stuffed animal I bought my daughter when I was pregnant with her. 'Lamby' is still with us here....Michelle
leoraw says
We have a little friend who owns a Lamby! Her most precious stuffed animal.
ramblingwoods says
I didn't know the difference between lamb and sheep..thanks..
Deborah Rey says

The Catholic Chuch (the institution, not the religion)and their 'shepherds'. This in connection with recent scandals of sexual child abuse by priests.
Seder (singing together)
leoraw says
Deborah, lots of connections! I'm glad someone besides Ilana-Davita noted the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry drawing. It's actually my drawing, while looking at his book.
Mimi says
Coming in late...I am reminded of an Arab village I past through recently, where on the main street a butcher's shop displayed entire sheep hanging from from ceiling hooks. Underneath the skinned carcasses, living sheep nosed around, probably next to be slaughtered.
Sorry if it's grim, but that was my immediate association.
leoraw says
Mimi, thanks for joining. I have vague memories of seeing rabbits hanging in a shop...probably in the Italian North End in Boston.
Jane says
sheep - getting stuck in a "sheep jam" when on honeymoon. We were driving around the Yorkshire Dales, and found ourselves surrounded by hundreds of sheep on a very narrow road. Just had to park the car and wait until they had bleated past!
leoraw says
Jane, you live in an interesting part of the world. More sheep than people?
Jew Wishes says
I think of my first trip to England when I think of sheep and how they dotted the countryside landscape.
