Signs of Times: Seasonal Shifts

bald_cypress_november
Here’s a leaf of my bald cypress, photo taken this November.

Gray Catbird in our Bald Cypress Tree, photo taken July 2009
The same bald cypress tree was photographed in July, with a gray catbird enjoying the branches.

My oak leaf hydrangea is almost all red.

hydrangea_october
It was much greener in October.

talltree_november
One neighbor’s tall maple was displaying yellow leaves in October.

Here’s the same tree, back in January 2009. I looked an hour ago, and the tree is almost bare again, soon to look as it did in January.

What a lovely progression. I like the "before and after" aspect.

Thanks - with the last two, I'm not sure which one is before and which one is after... the tree is beginning to look like it did last winter. The cycle of life.

Lovely series and I particularly like the angle of the maple tree..I wouldn't have thought of that. Regarding 'green thinking"... You are a very green thinker when it comes to the food that your family eats. You expose your children to the sights and sounds of nature and you are obviously a lover of the outdoors... Thank you for posting to Nature Notes... I enjoyed this post... winter is on its way isn't it? --Michelle--

Great sequence of shots. I enjoy seeing how the same tree looks at different times of the year. I get the biggest kick out of catbirds. You got a great shot of that one.

Thank you for stopping by my blog and your kind comment, Everything on my blog is my work unless otherwise accredited, so yes the drawing is mine. After a pause of 26 years, I have picked up the pen again.

A beautiful post you have created. You seem to love trees as I do. I love them in all seasons but particularly when they bare their souls in winter.

These pictures are all so beautiful, but looking up through the tree at the blue, blue sky is just fantastic!

Nice to hear from you, Louise. I had fun taking these shots. And pairing them up with ones from other seasons.

It still looks a bit like autumn in New Jersey. It looks closer to winter here in Ontario.

Yes, it's still fall here. A pleasant one, too.

And RJ Flamingo, who is in Florida, has a catbird featured on her blog this week. I joked it was here in NJ in July, in Florida in November.
