Today’s Flowers: Red Lily

lily_red_wet

It’s been wet, wet, wet here in New Jersey. My garden is happy.

I am trying to detect which kind of lily this is. See Wikipedia for the varieties of lilies. I have others that seem to be day lilies; they bloom on and off throughout the summer. This one blooms once per bud, then it usually gets knocked over and that’s it for the season. My guess: it is some kind of Asiatic lily, because of the leaves. The stem looks like these Asiatic Lilies.

I'm thinking the other ones I have, with the broad green leafy bottoms, are daylilies. These have fat, shoot right up kind of stems. Maybe I should add a photo of the stem. Except I don't have one right now.

It's gorgeous, so pretty with the raindrops left on it and the color is breathtaking. I hope someone identifies it for you. Thank you for sharing and have a great week.

I think it is an Asiatic type, as well. There are a lot of hybrids out there and it gets a little difficult to tell them apart sometimes.

I know what you mean about the rain. Connecticut has been wet though that has extended our planting season. I am ready for some sunshine.

Thanks for suggesting that you also think it's an Asiatic lily.

The sun came out again today, so I enjoyed the sunny weather, which wasn't too hot. I don't mind the rain if it's not every day. And if it cools off the heat.

No idea, but I suspect it would make me sneeze. A lot. I'm terribly allergic to lilies, which I discovered when I received a HUGE bouquet of them from my husband's company after my daughter was born. It was so bad that I had to give them to my neighbor.

Ah-ah-ah-CHOO!

Is it the flower or the photo?

yes:) thats the pic... now that I look at it, I think I like the large drops on last pic but I like this flower better hehe... and may be next time you need to try different perspective on water drops - may be from side instead of top:)
