The Sea of Galliee is such a familiar sounding place name, having listened to bible stories from my early childhood. Its always so interesting to see pictures of the actual place. Nice photos.

Good question. Wouldn't what is told to Christians have a lot of the same things told to Jewish tourist? We had to study the history of Israel in one of my Bible classes.

Dee, if you are a Christian tourist, you learn about the stories of Jesus in this area. If you are a Jewish tourist, you visit graves of great rabbis (not that we did; we went to a waterpark!). So it really is two different sets of storytelling. We heard more biblical stories in the areas closer to Jerusalem.

Oh how beautiful! The Sea of Galilee - heard so many times, imagined, now a glimpse into that world.

I am taken with the boat as it looks so interesting. I think our family would confuse the tour guides as far as what stories to tell. My husband is Jewish, my step-daughters Korean, my niece African American, my son-in-law to be is Native American. Me..not sure what I am anymore..

Michelle, you could probably just go on either tour. Doesn't matter much to the tour guides, but it matters a lot to some tourists, the kind of presentation that they hear.

I suspect the Japanese might get the Christian guide rather than the Jewish one - but what about the aetheists?

Can't one get a guide that tells about the flora and fauna?

Gerald, as I said to Michelle, it's really the tourists that often want a religion-specific tour. Atheists can choose whatever they like. I suppose the Japanese tourists could do the same.
There are many knowledgeable flora and fauna guides in Israel, but one would get that sort of tour in an environmental center. There's one in the Hula Valley, north of the Kinneret, that I would love to visit someday.

I'd be curious to know too...

Perhaps the story of Jesus calming the storm in this sea would nice to tell, in whichever language or from whatever religion a tourist is...

and I'd certainly want to visit this place too! Thanks for sharing!

I had a few extra minutes to go back to some of the blogs that I had looked through earlier, but didn't get to spend enough time on. I keep a list and then go back later on and read more on certain ones that are of particular interest to me. Yours was one of those and is so good. I enjoyed so much your comments and you sharing your experiences on your two week vacation back there. I am going to also go back and read some more of your previous posts.

The Sea of Galilee photo (and all of the pictures) is something I've read about for ever but actually seeing it through your eyes and hearing through your words, intensify my interest and I found myself continuing to think about this all day. I am so glad that I have found your blog!
