Blue Arrow for Metuchen
It’s time for me to start re-connecting with this side of the Atlantic Ocean. So, in order to do so, I present you with yet one more photo of Israel, this time a blue arrow on a small highway somewhere in between Modiin and Hashmonaim.
Have you ever driven down Rte 27 in Metuchen? Or have ever given anyone directions to drive to Highland Park from the Garden State? You need to take a weird left after Main Street in Metuchen into what appears to be–ongoing traffic? You can’t really tell if you are doing the right thing, can you? When you take that left, not like you really are turning into a different road. It’s all Route 27! One long road that starts–where does it start? But you can drive on that road all the way to Princeton. Google Maps tells me that little scary left is from Middlesex Avenue unto Lake Avenue. Well, my husband has proposed that one of these nice little blue arrows might do the trick. So your guest doesn’t keep going and up on Rt. 287 or some other miscellaneous road.
In other local news, Mason Resnick is trying to lure Trader Joe’s to Highland Park. And Jill Caporlingua was part of Random Acts of Fun last night, as she taught art on Raritan Avenue.
Regarding issues that effect all of us, mommies or not, Mother In Israel posted about nursing moms in malls and Frumhouse continued with her nursing experiences. Don’t you want to live a society that does the right thing?

I've been living in NJ for 5 years now and I still can't get used to how bad signage is.
There are signs for the Parkway or Turnpike that you see once and then never again. Washed out street/jughandle signs - making landmarks crucial when giving directions.
and my absolute favorite - the tiny little signs that point to a clump of trees or directly to the sky - they usually appear 3 feet before an exit

Don't get me started on street signs and just plain ol' bad addresses - around here it's very confusing!
And yay for Trader Joe's! I like buying good stuff for cheap. :)

Dianne, my husband and I appreciate U.S. signage after traveling by car in Israel. There, you make a wrong turn, and ooops, unfriendly territory. The checkpoints around the country actually help prevent you from going to an unfriendly neighborhood, though. The blue signs was my one positive!
Rosie, I guess signs are confusing all over. We got lost in Haifa by mistake and I thought I was back in Boston. Except I know the Boston cow paths, and the Haifa ones were new and weird.

I generally find Israel's sign to be pretty good. And you can't really get stuck in a "bad neighborhood" because of the checkpoints. But if you make a wrong turn in Jerusalem you practically have to drive to Tel-Aviv to turn around!

Signage can be pretty bad in France too.

Baila, it was fine in the Modiin area. But we did get take a wrong turn on Rte. 65 in the Galil because there was no sign, and we unwillingly traveled through Nazereth to get to my cousins. Well, we're here to tell the tale! And I already mentioned our Haifa saga. But, yes, the checkpoints do help you stay in friendly areas.
